Curb & Fire Lane Striping

Why is Curb & Fire Lane Striping Important?

Curb & Fire lane striping is a necessary part of any city. Streets are lined with curbs, and fire lanes that are specially marked for emergency vehicles to have access in the event of an emergency.  The importance of these lanes can’t be underestimated, as correctly marked fire lanes provide fire trucks and emergency vehicles with unobstructed access to your building.  They should also be up-to-date and must be clearly visible from both directions so drivers can avoid going into them while they’re driving down the street.

What are the fire lane requirements?

The most common requirement in many cities is a painted red line on either side of a street with the words NO PARKING – FIRE LANE prominently displayed on signs or other approved notices or markings. You may also need an additional curb between parked cars and pedestrian traffic if there isn’t enough space for larger emergency vehicles such as trucks and buses. A fire marshal will conduct a pre-inspection within the premises and we’ll be here to help you to ensure you have all the information to stay compliant.

What does the color painted on the curbs mean?

Curb markings are one of the most important things you need to know about in order to be a good driver. They let you know where it is safe and not safe to park on any given block. You will often see red curbs, which mean that they are fire zones and can never be parked or stopped in those areas for any reason because it is very dangerous. A yellow curb means that it is a loading zone and can only be used when loading or unloading gear from your vehicle-though there may be other restrictions with some curbs, so always check signage before parking anywhere near them!
